HOUSTON - University of Houston pitcher Brett Cooley threw five innings of one-run ball, and Jake Stewart and Stuart Musslewhite each went 2-for-5 with three RBIs to help lead the Cougar Baseball team to a 10-4 win over No. 25 Baylor on Tuesday at Cougar Field.
Cooley set the tone on the mound early during his first collegiate victory in his first career start. The Round Rock, Texas, native struck out a career-best six while allowing only one run off two hits in five innings of work. He faced the minimum through the first 4.2 innings and only one over the minimum through five.
Batting 1-2 in the Cougar lineup, Stewart and Musslewhite set the table for the remaining UH hitters. In addition to their shared numbers, Stewart scored two runs, while Musslewhite added a single run.
All but one Cougar starter rapped out at least one hit in the game as UH outslugged Baylor 12-7. Brett Logan continued his recent hot hitting by batting 2-for-4 with a career-best three runs, and Travis Tully batted 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
Baylor starter Cory VanAllen dropped to 0-1 after giving up six runs but only one earned off six hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work.

The Cougars took advantage of a two-out error to rap out four straight hits in the second inning on the way to five runs. After Thanos Papavasiliou walked and Logan reached on an infield error, Tully slapped an infield single to first base and Papavasiliou raced all the way from second base for the first run of the game.
Stewart then blasted a triple off the wall in left center field to score two more runs and scored himself on Musslewhite's single down the left field line. With Musslewhite running on a picture-perfect hit-and-run, Cooley laced a double down the right field line, allowing Musslewhite to score and cap the Cougar rally.
Baylor put its first mark on the scoreboard in the fifth inning when Mike Heldoorn blasted a solo home run over the left field wall.
One inning later, the Bears trimmed the deficit to only two runs with a three-spot. Kyle Reynolds laced an RBI-single to score Jared Clements, and Michael Griffin followed with an RBI-double. Zach Dillon then capped the rally with an RBI-single to left field for a 6-4 UH lead.
The Cougars added to their lead in the sixth inning with four runs of their own. Nick Bott started the rally when he blasted a 2-0 offering from Baylor reliever Andy Pape over the left field wall. After Papavasiliou reached on an error, Logan singled and Tully walked to load the bases, Stewart lifted a fly ball into center field that was misplayed, allowing Papavasiliou to score from third.
After Stewart stole second base to put runners at second and third, Musslewhite slapped a two-RBI single through a drawn-in Baylor infield for the final score.
