Houston Wins Big over McNeese

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball tallied a season-high 17 hits en route to a convincing 13-9 win over McNeese on Wednesday night at Schroeder Park.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 6-6 and snapped a four-game losing skid, while the Cowboys fell to 2-10 on the year.


  • Joe Davis extended his on-base streak to 13 games, dating back to 2017.
  • Drew Minter tallied another double for his team-leading seven and third straight game with a two-bagger.
  • Hunter Edwards threw 2.0 shutout innings in relief to earn his first career win as a Cougar.
  • Lael Lockhart Jr. has a hit in 10 of the 11 games he has played.
  • Jared Triolo has reached base in 11 straight games.
  • Every Houston starter had a hit and eight of the nine starters had an RBI.

The Houston offense recorded a season-best 17 hits, three for extra base hits. All nine starters had a hit, while eight had an RBI. Lael Lockhart Jr. led the offense with three hits and three RBI, while Cooper Coldiron drove in three RBI.

Tallying a multi-hit game for the Cougars were Landon Etzel, Connor Hollis, Joe Davis, Rey Fuentes III and Drew Minter.

Redshirt freshman Hunter Edwards picked up his first win as a Cougar, tossing 2.0 shutout innings in relief. He moves to 1-0.

Junior Nolan Bond earned his first start of 2018 and tossed 4.0 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk, while fanning one.

The Houston bullpen saw Dylan Lester, Trevis Sundgren, Griffin Hattingh, Kyle Ott, Lockhart and Carter Henry in the final 3.0 innings of work.

3rd | McNeese jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with three hits in the inning.

4th | Houston responded nicely with eight runs in the latter half of the fourth for an 8-2 lead. The Cougars batted around in the frame with seven hits.

The inning began with a double by Hollis and the hits continued as Davis, Lockhart and Fuentes followed with three straight hits. Etzel came up big with one out to double and drive in a pair of runs, rolling over the lineup after every Cougar scored a run in the fourth. Lockhart had two RBI in the same inning.

5th | Houston built on its fourth-inning offensive showcase, tallying four more runs in the fifth inning, beginning with a double by Minter. Triolo, Coldiron and Lockhart each had an RBI.

7th | Colidron led off the inning with a walk and later came around to score on an RBI-single by Hollis to give Houston the 13-2 lead.

8th | McNeese made it interesting in the eighth by collecting five walks and two hits to score six runs and trim Houston's lead to 13-8.

9th | The Cowboys used the top of the ninth to score their final run on an RBI-single to make it a 13-9 final.

Houston will welcome San Diego to Schroeder Park for a three-game series this weekend. The series will begin Friday at 6:30 p.m., continue at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and wrap at 1 p.m. Sunday.
