0 Houston played its third straight error-free game.

3Sophomore Michael Pyeatt went 3-for-3 for his second time this week, leading Houston at the plate.

9 The Cougars stranded nine runners on base in today's loss.

The Cougars fell to 11-4 on the season and 6-2 at home with the loss, while the Islanders improved to 9-6.
Houston tallied 10 hits in the loss as sophomore Michael Pyeatt (3x3, RBI) led the Cougars with his second 3-for-3 effort this week. Pyeatt doubled and tripled, while driving in a run.
Junior Caleb Barker (2x4, R), freshmen Justin Montemayor (2x4, 2 R) and Josh Vidales (2x5) each garnered two hits, while junior Landon Appling (1x2) contributed with a bunt single.
Houston stranded nine runners on base, but played its fifth error-free game in the last six contests.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi scratched two runs across in the top of the first after three hits and a walk. Houston bounced back in the latter half of the second with a run after Montemayor, Pyeatt and Appling loaded the bases on three consecutive singles. Freshman Jacob Campbell's double-play groundout plated Montemayor for the Cougars' first run.
Houston had its chance to tie the game after a two-out double by Pyeatt and back-to-back walks by Appling and Campbell - however; all three were stranded after a swinging strikeout.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi added to its lead in the top of the sixth with a run after a leadoff double and RBI-single.
The Cougars looked to be in control in the bottom of the sixth with the first two batters reaching and moving up a base on a sacrifice bunt, but a missed opportunity on a squeeze bunt kept Houston off the board.
After the Islanders plated a run in the top of the eighth, Houston responded with its best scoring frame of the night with two runs to pull within one. Barker and Montemayor both singled and scored following a Pyeatt triple down the right field line. With runners at the corners and two outs, Houston was caught swinging to end the inning.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went on to post its best offensive inning of the ninth with five runs following four hits, including the second homerun of the night by Jonathan Gonzales.
Houston senior starter Austin Pruitt (7.2,9,4,4,3,6) fanned six in his 7.2 innings of work, but would be tagged with his first loss of the season, falling to 3-1.
Junior reliever Chase Wellbrock (1.1,4,5,5,1,3) tossed the final 1.1 innings, allowing five runs on four hits - three of which came in the infield, with three strikeouts.
