WACO, Texas -- Highlighted by dominating pitching performances on both sides, Houston Baseball would fall in a 2-1 heartbreaker at No. 10 Baylor on Friday in Game 1 of the three-game weekend series at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.
The loss dropped Houston to 8-4 on the year, while Baylor moved to 13-1 with the win.
Houston and Baylor will continue its three-game series with Game 2 at 3:05 p.m. Saturday before wrapping at 1:05 p.m. Sunday at Baylor Ballpark in Waco.

- Connor Wong had two hits and has now reached base in all 12 games this season.
- Seth Romero struck out 11 and notched his fourth straight start with at least 10 strikeouts.
- Romero now has 250 career strikeouts for fourth-most all-time on the career strikeout list.
- Wong led the Cougars at the plate with a double and single.
- Jake Scheiner scored the lone run for Houston on a wild pitch after reaching on a walk.
Houston starter Seth Romero fanned 11 hitters and notched his fourth straight start with at least 10 strikeouts, but would suffer the unfortunate loss, allowing just four hits and one earned run with four walks in 6.1 innings. The southpaw is now 2-2 on the year.
2nd | Baylor took advantage of a Houston defensive error, scoring the game's first run in the second for the early 1-0 lead.
7th | Houston works several long counts to two walks in the seventh, which eventually led to a run as Scheiner scored on a wild pitch with two outs to tie the game at 1-1. Baylor then responds with a leadoff walk and back-to-back singles to take over the lead at 2-1.
Baylor moved to 13-1 with the win. The Bears outhit the Cougars, 5-4, led by Tucker Cascadden with the game-winning RBI in the seventh. Reliever Kyle Hill earned the win, his first of the year, after holding the Cougars hitless in 1.1 frames, while fanning four.
