Stockton, Calif. - The University of Houston baseball team was unable to come up with a win in the series finale at Pacific on Sunday afternoon in Stockton, Calif. The Cougars fell to the Tigers with a score of 10-2. With the loss, Houston falls to 3-14 on the series and 2-4 all-time against Pacific. UH also suffered a series sweep to the Tigers. It is the Cougars' first series sweep this season and their first since a sweep by San Diego last season on their trip to the West Coast. The Cougars dug themselves into an early hole giving up five runs to the Tigers on three hits and an error in the first inning. Pacific added to their total with one run in the second inning to push their lead to 6-0. Pacific continued to score runs increasing their lead, 8-0, plating two runners in the third inning. In the next three innings, however, Houston was able to put a stop to the Tigers' scoring. Responding in with one out in the sixth inning, Houston snapped the no-hitter that was in progress after Blake Kelso hit a single to right field and advanced John Cannon to third after he reached on a fielder's choice. Cannon would score on a sacrifice fly from William Kankel but Kelso was thrown out at second to end the inning. Zak Presley hit the Cougars' first extra base hit of the afternoon in the seventh inning, on a double to right center with two outs and Matt Murphy followed that up with a walk. The duo would be left stranded on base as Taylor White flied out to center field to end the inning. UH had held the Tigers scoreless through four innings, until with two outs in the eighth inning, Pacific scored two runs off a single from Mike McKeever. With one final at bat, Kankel led off with a double to left center. Pinch hitting for Dempsay, Carlos Reyes reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman but was thrown out at first when he rounded the plate looking to go to third. Caleb Ramsey grounded out to the second baseman but advanced Kankel to third and he would score on a single to left field from Presley. The game would come to an end when Matt Murphy flied out to left field. LOOKING AHEAD
