Sophomore reliever Aaron Fletcher took over for Ullom in the eighth and finished with four strikeouts and one walk in 1.2 innings for his fifth save of the year.

4th | The Cougars added to their lead with a pair of runs in the fourth thanks again to a double from Julks, who plated Scheiner -- who singled and Padgett -- who doubled in the frame, giving the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

6th | Houston goes up 5-0 with a pair of runs in the sixth when Scheiner led off with a double and came around to score on a two-out RBI-single from Julks. Jordan Monacy followed with a single and Julks moved first to third on the base hit, allowing Hollis to drive him in on an RBI-single up the middle in the next at-bat for the fifth run of the game.
UC Irvine would use a two-out three-run home run to make things interesting and trim Houston's lead by two at 5-3.

8th | UC Irvine takes advantage of a Houston throwing error to plate its fourth run of the game in the eighth after a leadoff double placed the runner on base.

Starter Louis Raymond suffered his second loss of the year, falling to 3-2 after surrendering five earned runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings of work. UC Irvine's bullpen held the Cougars hitless in the final 3.0 innings of play, but five runs proved to be enough.

UC Irvine tallied just seven hits, led by a three-run home run off the bat of Cole Kreuter.

The Cougars and Anteaters will wrap up their three-game series at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday. Following the weekend series, Houston will return home to host Incarnate Word Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before opening American play on the road at UCF next weekend.
