Houston Evens Series at UCF with Win

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Houston Baseball used a two-run home run by Jake Scheiner to even the American Athletic Conference weekend series at UCF with a 3-1 win on Saturday evening.

The win lifted the Cougars' overall record to 20-6 on the year as well as evened their league record to 1-1, while UCF fell to 21-7 and 1-1.

The Cougars out hit UCF, 9-6, led by two Cougars with a multi-hit game -- Grayson Padgett and Joe Davis. Jake Scheiner drove in a pair on his team-leading 10th home run of the year, while Connor Hollis drove in a run on a sac fly.

Sophomore Mitch Ullom improved to 4-2 on the year after not allowing an earned run in 6.0 innings of work at UCF. He allowed just four hits and walked four with two strikeouts.

Sophomore reliever Aaron Fletcher picked up his team-high sixth save after tossing 3.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits to close it out.

5th | It took until the fifth inning to break up a 0-0 stalemate, but Houston jumped out early with one run in the frame following a leadoff double by Julks -- who later came around to score on a sac fly by Hollis.

6th | The Cougars padded their lead with a two-run home run by Scheiner -- who plated Padgett -- who led off the inning with a double.

7th | UCF scored its lone run in the seventh after a leadoff single came around to score on another single and throwing error to make it 3-1.

UCF fell to 21-7 on the year and 1-1 in league play. The Knights were held to just seven hits, led by Eli Putman with three hits and a run. Starter Juan Pimentel suffered the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work.

The series in Orlando, Fla. will wrap at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.
