Baseball Takes Down No. 15 Texas A&M, 9-2

College Station, Texas - The University of Houston baseball team defeated No. 15 Texas A&M 9-2 for their seventh straight win on Tuesday night at Olsen Field. With the win, Houston improves to 14-17 on the season and they are now 1-1 against the Aggies this season. Houston got home runs out of Chris Wallace and Blake Kelso in the win. On the mound, Mo Wiley improved to 2-1 on the season. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up three hits and striking out a career-high six batters. Frank Corolla, Jared Ray and Donnie Joseph came in relief to pitch the final 3.2 innings, giving up a combed four hits and two runs. Zak Presley opened the game reaching base on an error by Aggie pitcher Chad Sherman, while advancing to third on the overthrow and scoring on a wild pitch. In the third inning, with two outs, Wallace hit his sixth home run of the season, scoring Kelso and Presley to give the Cougars a 4-0 advantage. Jake Runte started the inning off reaching base on a walk and Kelso reached on a fielder's choice as Runte was thrown out at second. Caleb Ramsey followed that up with fly out to left field and Presley walked to put two runners in scoring position. Taylor White followed a strong third inning up by reaching base on an error in the fourth inning and advancing to third on the throw. He would score on the next at bat with a Ty Stuckey single to right field. Kelso added to the total with a solo shot over the left field fence for his second home run this season in the fifth inning. William Kankel went on to score on a Ty Stuckey double to the right field fence to score at least one Cougar run in three consecutive innings and increase their lead to 7-0 in the sixth. Houston added to their total in the eighth inning. Kankel led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on a single through the left side from White. He advanced on a ground out to first base from Stuckey. Matt Murphy advanced White to third when he reached base on an error by the shortstop and White would go on to score on a sacrifice bunt off Runte. The Aggies avoided the shutout in the ninth inning scoring a run off a double from Dylan Petrich and a Kyle Colligan when Caleb Shofner reached on an error. LOOKING AHEAD Cougar fans are encouraged to wear their favorite 80s apparel and listen to the best hits of the 80s throughout the game on Friday night for 80s Night. Following Sunday's game, all kids are invited to participate in a post-game Easter Egg hunt with the team for Easter with the Coogs.
