HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team dropped its series opener, 10-1, to the UAB Blazers Friday night at Cougar Field. The loss is the first in Conference USA play for the Cougars and they are now 16-16 on the year and 3-1 in league play.
The Blazers jumped on the Cougars early, posting two runs to open the game. Jamal Austin scored the leadoff runner with a sacrifice fly to right field and Patrick Palmeiro hit a home run to left field.
Junior Codey Morehouse was able to pull UH within one, 2-1, in the third inning with a home run to left field, his first of the season, but that would be the only run that the Cougars would be able to score in the contest.
