    Final Stats

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team raced out to an 8-1 lead after four innings and never looked back in taking an 11-4 win over Charlotte in the opener of a Conference USA three-game series at Cougar Field on Friday.

UH (13-19, 6-4 C-USA) exploded for a season-high-tying 15 hits and saw all but one Cougar starter pound out at least one hit in the game. Jake Stewart went 3-for-5 with a run, two doubles and three RBIs to lead all players and joined Kevin Roberts in extending their UH season-best-tying hitting streaks to eight games.

In addition, Patrick Breen, Nick Bott and Brad Lincoln each rapped out a pair of hits for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, the Cougars received another solid outing from 2004 C-USA All-Preseason pitcher Garrett Mock. The Houston native struck out five and allowed only one unearned run off five hits in six innings of work. With his third win in his last four decisions, Mock improved to 3-5.

With the win, UH head coach Rayner Noble recorded his 344th career victory as the Cougar skipper and became the second-winningest coach in school history. Noble, now in 10th season at the helm of his alma mater, trails only Rolan Walton's 378 victories from 1975-86.

Charlotte starter Zach Treadway dropped to 1-4 after giving up eight runs off nine hits in only 3.1 innings of work. Kris Rochelle batted 2-for-5 with an RBI, and Adam Floyd went 2-for-3 with a run in the losing effort.

After a walk to Kevin Roberts, Stuart Musslewhite blasted an RBI-double down the left field line to plate Gaylord and give the Cougars an early lead.

Jake Stewart slapped a single up the middle to plate both Roberts and Musslewhite for a 3-0 UH lead.

In the second inning, Nick Bott led off with a home run over the left field wall, his third tater of the season.

Charlotte struck for its first runs in the third inning, thanks to a hit and two Cougar errors. Adam Floyd reached on a leadoff single and moved to second on the first UH error. Michael Roane followed with a grounder that was misplayed in the Cougar infield, allowing Floyd to score.

UH added to its lead in the fourth inning with four more runs. After Stewart led off with a double to left center, Breen blasted a 1-1 offering from Treadway off the scoreboard in right center. Two batters later, Brad Lincoln slapped a single into right field and came all the way around on Rob Johnson's double down the left field line.
