HOUSTON -- A four-run sixth inning sparked a come-from-behind win as Houston Baseball earned a 9-6 victory on Sunday to sweep East Carolina in the American Athletic Conference series at Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars improved to 23-8 on the year and 4-2 in league play, while East Carolina fell to 18-15 overall and 0-6 in league action.
The sweep marked the fourth weekend sweep of the year for the Cougars and the first sweep of East Carolina in Houston since 2013.
Houston will travel across town Tuesday to take on Rice at 6:30 p.m. Following the road midweek game, the Cougars will travel to Memphis to take on the Tigers in a three-game series, beginning Thursday, April 13 at 6:30 p.m. The series will continue Friday at 2 p.m. and wrap at 12 p.m. Saturday.

The Houston offense out hit East Carolina for the third-straight game, 11-8. Four Cougars had a multi-hit game, led by Hollis' three-hit day. Scheiner drove in three RBI on two hits, including his 11th home run and Julks plated a pair on a triple and had two hits.
Down 6-5, Villarreal came in and shut the door on a strong-hitting ECU team, holding the Pirates to just one hit, no runs with no walks in a career-long 4.2 innings of work for his first career win as a Cougar.
2nd | East Carolina took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second after two base hits and a three-run home run.
Down by three, the Cougars chipped away with a pair of runs in the latter half of the frame thanks to a solo home run by Scheiner and an RBI-single from Hollis, scoring Triolo -- who reached on a fielder's choice.
3rd | The Pirates used two runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 5-2 on an RBI-double and a sacrifice fly.
Houston answered ECU's scoring threat with two runs of its own thanks to a Padgett sac fly and a solo home run by Davis -- making the score 5-4 in ECU's favor.
4th | Down by a run in the fourth, Houston tied the game on a bases-loaded walk from Padgett -- scoring Triolo -- who led off the frame with a single.
5th | ECU would again take the lead with a single run in the fifth following a double and RBI-single for the 6-5 advantage.
6th | Houston's big-inning came in the sixth when the Cougars pushed across four runs. Hollis led off the inning with a single and with one out, Padgett and Davis loaded the bases with back-to-back walks. Scheiner would the plate a pair on a two-run single and Julks would quickly follow with a two-run triple for a four-run frame and a 9-6 lead, which proved to be all that was needed to clinch the sweep.
EAST CAROLINA NOTES
East Carolina dropped its seven straight game and fell to 18-15 overall and 0-6 in American play with Sunday's loss. The Pirates tallied eight hits, led by Luke Bolka's three-RBI day.
Pirate reliever Matt Bridges suffered the loss, falling to 0-2 on the year after allowing four runs on three hits with five walks in 1.2 innings.
