HOUSTON - University of Houston Baseball saw Seton Hall take and early four-run lead and never look back as the Pirates took advantage of costly errors in later innings, dropping the Cougars 11-1 on Friday at Cougar Field.

7 Matt Hernandez struck out a career-tying seven Pirates in 6.1 innings of work out of the pen.
Houston fell to 24-10 and 15-4 at home this season with the loss, while Seton Hall improved to 17-14 with the win.
Despite two big scoring innings, senior Matt Hernandez (6.1,6,5,2,0,7) was the bright spot as the lefty worked 6.1 innings out of the pen, striking out a career-tying seven Pirates in the effort.
Houston tallied seven hits, led by freshmen Justin Montemayor (2x4, R) and Josh Vidales (2x4) with two base hits each.
Adding hits in the effort were freshman Ashford Fulmer (1x3, RBI), freshman Kyle Survance (1x4) and junior Frankie Ratcliff (1x4).
Seton Hall jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with five hits, two of which were infield singles in the first inning. Hernandez came in relief of junior starter Daniel Poncedeleon (0.1,5,4,4,2,0) with one out in the first and was able to pitch out of an inherited bases loaded jam.
Down 4-0, Houston plated a run in the second after Montemayor singled with one out. Junior Jonathan Davis moved up a base on a hit by pitch, allowing Fulmer to drive Montemayor in on an RBI-single up the middle.
Seton Hall would tack on two more runs in the fourth after the Cougars committed two defensive miscues--neither run was earned.
The Cougars struggled to plate key runners, stranding a runner at third in three consecutive middle innings, including Montemayor in the fourth - who led off the frame with a leadoff triple.
Seton Hall starter Jon Prosinski (8.0,7,1,1,0,9) earned the win after tossing 8.0 complete innings with nine strikeouts.
Pirates pitching retired 11 of the final 12 Cougar hitters as Survance doubled in the seventh for Houston's only hit in the final three frames.
Poncedeleon suffered the loss, falling to 4-3 after allowing four runs in the first.
