TAMPA, Fla. -- Houston Baseball saw its 4-0 lead slip away as USF responded with seven unanswered runs to win Game 2 of the American Athletic Conference weekend series, 7-4, Saturday.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 28-14 overall and 9-5 in American play, while the Bulls improved to 33-10 and 8-6 in league action. The series is tied and a rubber game is slated for Sunday.
The series finale at USF will begin at 12 pm CT Sunday in Tampa, Fla.

- Houston now has 38 home runs with 20 coming in American Athletic Conference play.
- Lael Lockhart Jr. put Houston on the board early with his first career home run.
Houston starter Trey Cumbie suffered his first loss of 2017, falling to 6-1 after allowing four earned runs on nine hits in 6.0 innings of work. He fanned three.
Reliever Joey Puldo finished the game, tossing 2.0 innings, surrendering two unearned runs on five hits.
1st | Houston jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, highlighted by a solo shot by Lockhart for his first career home run. Corey Julks walked and with two outs, Davis singled into right center, scoring Julks from first base.
2nd | The Cougars added to their lead with two more runs in the second inning as Houston took advantage of a few USF miscues to plate a pair. With two outs, Wendell Champion II walked, took second on a passed ball and later scored on a Wong RBI-single. Wong then stole second, took third on an error and scored on a misplay at shortstop on a ball hit by Lockhart.
3rd | USF scores four runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game as a two-run single and a two-run home run evened the score.
4th | The Bulls took their first lead of the series when it used a one-out error by the Cougars to score the go-ahead run on an RBI-single.
8th | USF added two insurance runs in the eighth inning on four hits and a passed ball to extend its lead to 7-4.
USF evened the weekend series and improved to 33-10 overall and 8-6 in league play. The Bulls tallied 13 hits. Three players had a two-RBI night and Joe Genord and Duke Sunkel each led the team with three hits. Reliever Ryan Valdes improved to 9-0 out of the bullpen and Joe Cavallaro picked up his second save of the year.
