Brayson Hurdsman | 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Freshman Carter Henry made his fourth start of his young career and produced one of the gutsiest starts of the year. After allowing five runs in the first inning, the righty settled in and retired Rice over the next 6.1 innings of work. Henry finished the game, surrendering just five runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Henry handed the ball over to fellow freshman teammate Brayson Hursdman, who was lights out in the 1.2 innings he worked, fanning one and not allowing a hit or run for the win. With the victory, Hurdsman improved to 3-2 on the year.

KEY INNINGS
1st | Rice jumps out to a 5-0 lead on five hits in the top of the first inning, highlighted by two extra-base hits.

The Cougars responded with a run of their own in the latter half as Grayson Padgett reached on a strikeout-throwing error, moved to third on a single by Davis and scored on a single by Scheiner.

2nd | After holding Rice scoreless in the top of the second, Houston added another run of its own sparked by a leadoff single by Jared Triolo - who managed to move to third on a double by Hollis and score on an RBI-groundout by John Grimsley. The scoring continued as Hollis was plated on an RBI-groundout by Slaughter to make it a 5-3 game in favor of Rice.

6th | Houston uses a two-out, two-run single by Slaughter to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring Julks and Triolo, who singled and walked, respectively.

8th | The Cougars found a way to break open the 5-5 tie with a late run in the eighth when Slaughter reached via the two-out single. A throwing error moved him up a base forcing head coach Todd Whitting to replace Slaughter with pinch runner Landon Etzel. After an intentional walk to Wong, Etzel came around to score on a missed played ball off Padgett’s bat that found its way between the third baseman and shortstop for an error.
