Alumni and 2012 Cougars Represent Houston Baseball Well

Former Baseball Greats to Share in Fan Experience on Saturday

Jan. 16, 2008

HOUSTON - Fans of the University of Houston baseball team can catch a glimpse of the future and relive memories from the past when the program hosts an Alumni game at 1 p.m., Feb. 2 at Cougar Field.

A day after the Cougar Baseball team officially begins spring practice, members of the 2008 team will square off against one another in an intrasquad scrimmage.

Prior to the scrimmage, though, fans can look back on the past as former letterwinners compete in an Alumni game. Both the Alumni game and scrimmage are free and open to the public.

All former players are invited to attend and/or compete in the Alumni Game. For more information or to make reservations to compete in the game, players should call Brandi Clark with the Cougar Pride Office at (713) 743-9456 or reach her by email at brclark2@central.uh.edu.

Former players who make reservations to play will be able to check-in and warm up beginning at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 2.

Sixteen letterwinners return from the 2007 team, which finished fourth in an always competitive Conference USA and swept nationally ranked Tulane in Louisiana, a first in program history. Those veterans will be joined by 16 award-winning newcomers, who comprise one of the most athletic groups of first-year players in recent history.

Following the game, fans are invited to a picnic at Cougar Field where they can eat and enjoy good times with current and former Cougar players.

While the game is free and open to the public, fans must pay in advance and make reservations to attend the picnic. Fans who wish to attend the picnic must call or email Brandi Clark (713-743-9456 or brclark2@central.uh.edu). Prices to attend the picnic are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children 12 and under.

The Cougars open their 2008 season on Feb. 22-24 when they play host to Pacific at Cougar Field. That series begins at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 22, continues at 3 p.m., Feb. 23 and wraps up at 1 p.m., Feb. 24.
