HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore DH Jimmy Cesario was honored Monday as the Conference USA Hitter of the Week.

Cesario collected the honor after batting .667 (8-for-12) with three runs, a double, home run and three RBIs in four games last week. The Metairie, La., native was the only Cougar slugger to hit safely in all four games last week while facing two nationally ranked opponents.

He posted an RBI in three of the four games and reached base safely in eight of his first 10 plate appearances, posting three straight multi-hit games to open the season. It was the first C-USA weekly award of his career.

Cesario, along with junior righthander Aaron Brown, also were named to the Houston College Classic All-Tournament Team late Sunday for their performances at Minute Maid Park last weekend.

Rice freshman pitcher Ryan Berry was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week.

Cesario and his Cougar teammates return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday, when they square off against area-rival Sam Houston State at Cougar Field.

All Cougar Baseball games can be heard live on UHCougars.com with former UH letterwinner Nick Torina calling the play-by-play action and Pat Cauley providing color analysis.
