HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore shortstop Chase Jensen was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, the first weekly league honor to be handed out during the 2011 season.
Jensen guided the Cougars to a 3-0 sweep of UT Arlington during opening weekend and give UH its first 3-0 start to a season since 1993. The transfer from Weatherford College finished the weekend with a .600 batting average, going 9-for-15 at the plate. He hit two doubles in game two and had a two-run home run in the series finale. Jensen recorded an RBI in each game, finishing the weekend with five. He also recorded at least two hits in each game, including four in the season opener.
Jensen posted a .933 slugging percentage and a .600 on base percentage and he did not strike out during the series. While making his first career starts at shortstop, Jensen had seven putouts and 10 assists.
The 3-0 Cougars will look to extend their winning streak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when they play host to Stephen F. Austin at Cougar Field.
