Houston is coming off its second clean sweep of the year after improving its 2014 record to 7-0 with three wins over Michigan this past weekend and a shutout at No. 11 Rice last Wednesday.

The pitching staff continues to impress, holding a team ERA of 0.84 through the first seven games. The staff has fanned 58 and walked just seven in 64.0 total innings played, while holding hitters to a mere .168 batting average.

Sophomore Jake Lemoine leads the way with a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record having logged a team-best 14.2 innings. The righty has fanned 12 and allowed just two walks and eight hits.

Junior Aaron Garza is 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA, while sophomore Jared West (2.53 ERA, 1-0), senior Tyler Ford (0.00 ERA, 1-0), junior Jared Robinson (0.00, 1-0) and sophomore Bubba Maxwell (13.50 ERA, 1-0) all have wins. Ford was named American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week - notching the second straight week a Houston pitcher has received that honor.

Senior Chase Wellbrock has notched three saves in just 5.0 innings tossed. The right-handed closer has fanned nine and allowed just three hits for an ERA of 0.00.

Offensively, Houston is led by senior Casey Grayson's .348 average and four RBI. He is followed by sophomores Justin Montemayor's .320 clip and Josh Vidales' .259 clip.

McNeese State, a member of the Southland Conference, enters the midweek contest with a 5-2 record, posting wins over Chicago State, Missouri, Southern Miss, Louisiana College and UT-Arlington this season. The Cowboys are hitting .287 as a team, led by Jackson Gooch's .400 clip and eight RBI. He is followed by Matt Williams' .381 average and Connor Lloyd's .387 clip.

The Cowboys' pitching staff owns a 4.44 ERA and a 5-2 record with one save, allowing opponents to hit .302 against them. McNeese State is led by Tyler Erikson's 2-0 record out of the pen and 1.93 ERA. The staff has fanned 52 hitters and walked 33 in the seven games played.
