University of Houston junior leftfielder Josh Snook was named the Conference USA Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday, February 26.
Snook helped UH to a 3-1 record last week by batting a composite .412. In addition to going 7-for-17 with two home runs and eight RBI, Snook led the team with three doubles, four stolen bases, seven runs scored, 16 total bases and a .941 slugging percentage. He also posted .474 on-base percentage by drawing a pair of walks.
The native of Glendora, California, had big individual outings that led directly to a pair of Cougar wins. Snook went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI in an upset of crosstown rival Rice, the No. 1 ranked team in the country at the time. He also led UH to a dramatic come from behind win over SW Texas State on Sunday, first by doubling off the right field wall to drive in a run in the bottom of the ninth inning and then scoring the game-winning run over the Bobcats by stealing home in the ninth to break a 7-7 deadlock. On the week Snook stretched his team-best hitting streak to 10-consecutive games. Overall he has had a hit in 13 of the team's 14 games.
The UH baseball team continues the current homestand with four games at Cougar Field this week against two outstanding opponents. Houston meets regional rival Texas A&M on Tuesday, February 27. First pitch with the Aggies will be at 7:00 p.m. The Cougars will then host west coast power USC in a three-game weekend series March 2-4.
