HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will play the first contest of the five-game Silver Glove Series against Rice at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Rice's Reckling Park.

Houston enters the contest having won two of three games in a series against Santa Clara over the weekend. The Cougars now stand at 2-4 on the season. Matt Creel led all Cougars in the series going 9-for-15 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and eight RBIs. In addition, Creel earned the pitching win on Saturday, going the final two innings without allowing a run.

Tuesday's game will be the 152nd overall meeting between Rice and Houston, with the Owls leading the series 82-69. Last year, Houston went 1-3 in the Silver Glove Series and has not won the annual rivalry since 2000.

Right-handed pitcher Mo Wiley will be Houston's starting pitcher and he will be opposed right hander Anthony Fazio.

The Owls enter the mid-week game with a 3-4 overall record after going 3-0 over weekend at Reckling Park, defeating Elon, Nebraska and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. To open the season, Rice dropped all three games of a three-game series at Stanford and a single game at Lamar before breaking into the win column last weekend.

Rice is led at the plate by Michael Fuda. The sophomore is batting .481 this season, with a double, two triples and two home runs. On the mound, Taylor Wall holds a team-best 5.40 ERA and is 0-1.

Following Tuesday's match-up, Houston will return to Rice on April 1-3 for a three-game series and the final match-up will be on May 18 at Cougar Field.

After Tuesday's game, Houston will have two days off to prepare for the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park on March 5-7. UH will open the tournament against Missouri on Friday, continue on Saturday against Texas and will wrap-up the weekend against Texas Tech.
