Cougars Return Home To Face No. 25 Cal State Fullerton Friday

Waco, TX - The No. 14 ranked Baylor baseball team exploded for 10 runs in the first three innings to defeat the University of Houston by a score of 16-4 Tuesday night at the Baylor Ballpark in Waco. The loss was the Cougars' fifth in a row and fourth-straight to a nationally ranked team. The rugged schedule continues on Friday when UH returns home to face yet another ranked team in a three-game weekend series with No. 25 Cal State Fullerton.

On Tuesday Baylor scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the second and then five in the third on a total of nine hits. The big blow in the third was a grand slam by designated hitter Jared Clements.

In what turned into a near replay of the season-opener vs. the Bears at Enron Field (where Baylor posted a 16-7 win), the scoring continued with single runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth as well as three runs in the seventh. The lone bright spots for Houston was the sixth home run of the season by sophomore catcher Chris Snyder and the return of junior third baseman Chris Klosterman to the lineup. Klosterman collected a base hit and was error-free in the field after being sidelined the past two weeks with a hand injury.

The Cougars fell to 6-13 overall while Baylor improved to 15-5. Houston will next face No. 25 ranked Cal Fullerton at home at Cougar Field on Friday, March 9, in the first of a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m.
