WICHITA, Kan. – Houston Baseball senior catcher Caleb Barker has been named to the 2014 Johnny Bench Award Watch List presented by BaseballSavings.com, as announced today by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission.
Barker, a native of Keller, Texas, is now a two-time award watch list nominee and has started behind the plate in all 11 games played this season. He is the battermate for the nation’s top pitching staff, who leads with a 0.73 ERA, while posting six shutouts this season. Offensively, he has reached base safely in all 11 games and has seven hits, including a two-run double in a big win over then-No. 11 Rice.
