2012 UH Baseball Season Preview: Infield/Outfield

March 16, 2010

San Francisco, Calif. - After just one day of rest, the University of Houston baseball team will be back on the field for two mid-week contests against San Francisco and California on March 16-17.

The Cougars open the week on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. contest against San Francisco at Benedetti Diamond. The Dons are 10-8 on the year after finishing 2-2 at the San Diego State Tournament last weekend. Jared Denham leads San Francisco with a .439 batting average with eight doubles and six RBIs. On the mound, Jordan Remer is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three innings and will earn the start for the Dons against Houston's Taylor Hammack, who is 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA.

This will be the fourth meeting between the two programs. The Cougars are 2-1 all-time, having won the series at Houston in 2008.

UH will then cross the Bay Bridge for a game against California on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The Bears are 9-5 on the year, having gone 2-2 in a four-game series against Rice over the weekend. Chadd Krist leads Cal with a .462 batting average, including eight doubles, a triple and five home runs. Erik Johnson leads all pitchers with a 3-0 record and a 0.00 ERA in 19 innings of work.

The Cougars and Bears have not faced off on the baseball field since 1984 and Houston is 2-1 all-time.

Houston rides a six game win streak into the series after sweeping Cal Poly over the weekend. The Cougars stand at 8-5 this season. Joel Ansley leads all players with a .426 batting average with three doubles, two triples and a home run. Chase Dempsay paces the Cougars on the mound with a 1.29 ERA and a 1-0 record.

Following the mid-week contests, Houston will travel to Arizona State for a three-game series on March 19-21.
