Tom Paciorek Named Nominee for College World Series Legends Team
March 18, 2010
HOUSTON - Former Cougar letterwinner Tom Paciorek has been named a nominee for the College World Series Legends Team. The 2010 Men's College World Series will be played for the final time at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium for the final time and to commemorate this special year the NCAA is asking fans to select the CWS Legends Team. This team will represent those student-athletes who had the best CWS performances in the 60 years the event has been played in Omaha. The team will include two student-athletes per fielding position, four pitchers, two designated hitters, three head coaches and two utility players. Those utility players will be determined after fan voting and will represent those student-athletes deserving of the recognition who may not have been voted on by the fans, media and coaches. Pacioreck is the lone Cougar nominee for the Legends Team. He was a letterwinner for the Houston baseball team from 1966-68. In 1967, Pacioreck was a member of the Houston College World Series team as an outfielder. The team faced off against Texas in the NCAA District 6 Playoff, going to the third and deciding game which the Cougars won 4-3. Houston lost to Stanford 12-1 in the opening game of the College World Series before winning three-straight to set-up the championship contest against Arizona State. Unfortunately, the Sun Devils won the game 11-2 but the team finished the season ranked No. 2 in the polls, the highest finish ever by a UH baseball team. Pacioreck was named to the NCAA College World Series All-Tournament team and he set the UH single season batting average with a .435 clip. That record still stands today. Fans are encouraged to vote for Pacioreck at http://www.ncaa.com/sports/m-basebl/champpage/inc/div1/m-basebl-div1-forthefans.html.
