    HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team will travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on No. 11 TCU this weekend for the Cougars's final non-conference series of the 2011 season. The series begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, continues at 2 p.m. Saturday and concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday.

    All three games of the series will air on The Mtn.-Mountain West Sports Network, while Friday and Saturday's contests will air on Comcast Sports Southwest (Channel 129).     The Cougars (11-11) are looking to rebound this weekend after a 7-2 loss to No. 18 Rice in the first game of the Silver Glove Series at Reckling Park. Through 22 games this season, Matt Creel continues to lead the team at the plate with a .397 batting average. Senior Caleb Ramsey paces the team with nine doubles and 26 RBIs.

    The Horned Frogs are 13-7 this season and have won their last three games, including a 3-1 win over Texas State Tuesday night. Brance Rivera leads TCU with a .405 batting average, including seven doubles, two triples, five home runs and 13 RBIs.

    In the series opener, junior Mo Wiley has been named the Cougars' starter. Wiley is 1-1 in two starts this season. He went a career-long seven innings last Friday in a win over Kent State, surrendering just two earned runs with three strikeouts. Overall, Wiley posts a 3.77 ERA with seven strikeouts. TCU will send Kyle Winkler to the mound on Friday. He is 4-1 in five starts and posts a 0.99 ERA. Winkler has allowed just four earned runs and leads the team with 37 strikeouts.

    Junior Jordan Lewis will make his seventh start on Saturday for UH. He is 2-0 this season with a 4.67 ERA. In 27 innings, Lewis has allowed 14 earned runs with 15 strikeouts. TCU will send Matt Purke to the mound in game two of the series. Purke is 3-1 this season with a 0.47 ERA. He has allowed just one earned run in 19 innings with 24 strikeouts.

     

     

    Houston has not named a starter for Sunday's contest, while Steven Maxwell will take the mound for TCU. Maxwell is 2-0 in five starts with a 4.03 ERA. He has allowed 13 earned runs in 29 innings with 21 strikeouts.

    The series this weekend will mark the 97th meeting between the two programs. The Cougars hold a 52-42-2 lead in the all-time series, while the Horned Frogs have won the last four games.

    UP NEXT
    The Cougars will make a return trip to Reckling Park for the second game of the Silver Glove Series on March 29 before opening conference play in a three-game series against Tulane in New Orleans, April 1-3.
