Baseball Set to Play Host to No. 25 UCF in C-USA Weekend Series

HOUSTON - The University of Houston baseball team resumes its Conference USA season this weekend when it plays host to No. 25 UCF in a three-game series The series begins with 6:30 p.m., games on both Friday and Saturday before wrapping up at 1 p.m., Sunday. Fans can hear the game live on UHCougars.com with Jeremy Branham calling the play-by-play action and former UH letterwinner Pat Cauley providing analysis. Live stats via the Internet are available by clicking the "Gametracker" link on the UH front page or on the Cougar Baseball schedule page. Houston looks to regain its winning form after coming off a tough road trip in which they dropped three hard-fought games at San Diego State. Reigning C-USA Hitter of the Week and senior infielder Brian Pounds looks to continue his dominance at the plate as he leads the Cougars in seven offensive categories. Last week, the Houston finished as the team's leading slugger in average (.476), hits (10), home runs (2), slugging percentage (.952) and on-base percentage (.520) with two doubles and a triple. Sophomore southpaw Wes Musick will toe the rubber during the series opener Friday. The Lufkin native leads the Cougar pitching staff and is tied for first in the conference with five wins this season. For the Golden Knights, junior RHP Kyle Sweat is the scheduled starter for Friday's opener. Sweat has compiled a 3-1 record on the season with 29 strikeouts and a 3.86 ERA in 30.1 innings. UCF (22-8, 2-4 C-USA) comes into the game on a four-game losing streak after losing seven out of its last ten. Dwayne Bailey leads the Golden Knights with a .363 batting average, while Shane Brown leads the team with four home runs.
