April 4, 2006 Hey Coog Fans, Well, we just got back on Sunday from a good weekend at East Carolina. Let me tell you, that is a tough place to play, let alone win. That team feeds off of their fans who are ruthless. I remember two fans in particular down the right-field line near the visitor's bullpen. One guy had a big beard and a cheerleader's megaphone, and the other guy was probably in his early 20s, but he looked like he was about 15 years old. I mean the guy was tiny. But they both kept giving me a hard time about writing this online diary. Every one in the bullpen got a good laugh out of it, including myself. The guy with the beard was the funnier of the two, while "Mini Me" just repeated everything that his counterpart said. Well, we managed to escape the weekend with two wins and that was something to be proud of. I can't remember the last time we beat those guys two out of three. Friday was a nail biter coming down to the wire with us coming out on top 4-3. Brad Lincoln had another stellar performance, striking out 12 Pirates and earning his sixth win of the season. Saturday's game was pretty much one sided. A few notables from the game were Matt Farrington vulturing his second win of the season, the first four hitters in our lineup(Jake Stewart, Isa Garcia, Dustin Kingsbury, and Brad Lincoln) hit a home run, and Isa Garcia hit for the cycle. Something that I have never seen anyone do is hit for the cycle. It was something fun to see and congrats to Isa. Saturday was a good day all the way around: the Coogs won 13-4, and I got a surprise visit from my wife, Donna, who is attending law school at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Va. This is the third straight year we have been halfway across the country from one another, so we only get to see each other on rare occasions. She was very sneaky going behind my back to plan this whole thing, but I'm glad she did. It was really good to see her. I've also come to find out that our very own Director of Baseball Operations Traci Cauley had a hand in my wife's sneakiness, so thank you to Traci as well. I also got a visit from my dad's youngest brother, Don, this weekend who drove down all the way from Washington D.C. to see the Coogs play, so a very special thanks to him as well for making the trip. Sunday just wasn't our day. Nothing fell for us, and everything fell for them. They ended up beating us 3-0 in the final game. Although we were not satisfied with the loss, we were still happy to win two out of three on the weekend. That has been our goal since day one when it comes to conference play: winning each weekend series. If we can continue to do that, then we can hopefully move on to bigger and better things at the end of the season. Quick Side Note:
Until next time,
