Houston Rally Falls Short in Ninth Inning
Cougars Face UAB Friday Night
Houston, TX -- The No. 9 ranked Baylor baseball team jumped out to an early lead and then held off a University of Houston rally for a 10-6 win Wednesday night at Cougar Field.
Baylor third baseman Matt Williams clubbed a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the first inning for an early 4-0 lead. The Bears then stretched the margin to 9-2 before Houston rallied for three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh.
After Williams then slugged his second home run of the day in the eighth to make the score 10-5, Houston made one final rally in the bottom of the ninth. The Cougars added a run and had another two men on base with no one out before Baylor reliever Kyle Edens finally ended the threat.
Williams finished the day with two home runs, a double and five RBI. Houston was paced by freshman Gabe Lucas' three hits and Josh Snook's sixth home run of the season. The Cougars fell to 16-18 on the year while Baylor improved to 25-9.
Houston will next be in action with a Conference USA three-game weekend series at home April 6-8. The Cougars will meet UAB Friday at 7:00 p.m.
