Fifteen Student-Athletes Receive Conference USA Academic Medal
April 12, 2013
HOUSTON - Fifteen University of Houston student-athletes received the Conference USA Academic Medal on Friday after posting cumulative grade-point averages of 3.75 or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.
The Cougars were part of 547 student-athletes from around the league who received the Academic Medal.
Houston student-athletes from the Baseball, Men's Golf, Women's Soccer, Women's Swimming and Diving, Women's Tennis, Men's Track and Field/Cross Country, Women's Track and Field/Cross Country and Volleyball teams earned the Academic Medal for their outstanding academic achievement.
Women's Track and Field/Cross Country led all Houston sports programs with three honorees (Megan Frausto, Angelica Thompson and Alexis Vick), while Baseball led Houston men's teams with two selections (Caleb Barker and Justin Montemayor).
The 15 recipients tied for the third-highest total in Houston single-season history. It equaled the mark set by 2011-12 student-athletes and trailed only the 2010-11 and 2006-07 teams.
Friday's awards were only the latest academic honors to come the Cougars' way. On Thursday, 162 Houston student-athletes earned a place on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll with 3.0 cumulative GPAs or higher. It was the second-highest single-season total in school history.
