Ryan Lormand Named C-USA Baseball's Co-Hitter of the Week
May 14, 2007 HOUSTON - After helping lead the Cougars to a series win at Conference USA rival Memphis last weekend, University of Houston junior infielder Ryan Lormand was honored Tuesday as the league's Co-Hitter of the Week. In three games last week, the Waco native scored at least two runs, hit safely in and knocked in at least one run in all three games against the Tigers. Lormand batted .556 (5-for-9) and led all Cougar sluggers in runs, home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage, walks, hit by pitches and stolen bases. He proved to be the epitome of a leadoff hitter, reaching base safely and eventually scoring in the first inning of all three games to help set the tone. Lormand shared the weekly offensive honor with UAB's Ryan Keedy, while Rice righthander Ryan Berry was named the C-USA Pitcher of the Week. It was the first weekly award of his career and the second by a Cougar hitter in 2007. Lormand and his Cougar teammate return to action this week when they travel north on Interstate 45 to meet area-rival Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at Don Sanders Stadium. Earlier this season, the Cougars enjoyed a 16-9 win over the Bearkats at the friendly confines of Cougar Field.
