PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After leading Houston Baseball with seven RBI and a two-home run inning as well as helping the Cougars win a series at Tulane, junior Corey Julks was tabbed the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Julks earned his first Player of the Week honor this season and second of his career.
The Friendswood, Texas native hit .467 on the week, going 7-for-15 with six runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles and two home runs. He also had three walks.
He had a 9th-inning heroic effort on Friday at Tulane, where he belted a three-run home run and a grand slam in one inning alone, driving in seven RBI to help the Cougars come-from-behind and beat the Green Wave, 15-3, to open the weekend series.
Julks also stole three bases during the week, going 3-for-3, including a straight steal of home in Game 2 at Tulane, extending the Cougars’ lead to 4-0 in the eighth inning.
The junior is now hitting .306 on the year with 52 hits, 27 runs scored and 33 RBI – for third-best on the team. He upped his home run total to five and is 13-for-18 on the base paths.

Trey Cumbie | Honor Roll
Sophomore Trey Cumbie was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after he tossed his third career complete en route to a 4-0-shutout victory over the Green Wave to secure a conference series victory on the road. The southpaw struck out a career-high 11 hitters and held Tulane to just five hits with one walk in 9.0 scoreless frames.
The outing was the Lufkin, Texas native’s second career complete game shutout, last on the road in midweek action at Louisiana-Lafayette back on March 21.
The win lifted Cumbie's record to a 8-1 mark in 12 starts. He now enters the week, leading the pitching staff with an ERA of 2.14.
