Barker, Poncedeleon Named to C-USA Baseball All-Academic Team

May 20, 2013

IRVING, Texas - University of Houston Baseball junior battery mates Caleb Barker and Daniel Poncedeleon were recognized among the league's elite on the 2013 Conference USA All-Academic Team, announced Monday.

In order to be recognized, student-athletes must hold a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be of at least a sophomore academic standing and be a starter or key reserve for the team.

This duo named to the 13-man team is the first time Houston has landed two players on this list since 2008. The program has had a representative for the last seven years.

Under head coach Todd Whitting, Houston has maintained at least a 3.00 team GPA in every semester he has been at the helm. The Cougars recorded a department wide-most 25 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, while two were named to Academic Medals. Barker and Poncedeleon helped Houston Baseball to a program-best 3.17 GPA during Fall 2012.
