Aaron Brown Taken in Ninth Round of Baseball Draft
June 8, 2007 HOUSTON - University of Houston righthander Aaron Brown became the first Cougar to be selected in the 2007 first-year player draft when he was taken in the ninth round by the Seattle Mariners. This marked the sixth consecutive season and the 10th time in the last 11 years that at least one Cougar player was chosen in the annual draft. It also was the seventh time in the last eight seasons that a Cougar player was taken in the first 10 rounds. Brown posted a 6-6 record with 54 strikeouts and a 4.98 ERA in 86.2 innings during the 2007 season. He tied for the team lead in wins and ranked second among all UH hurlers in ERA, strikeouts, innings pitched and opposing batting average (.273). The League City native was honored as the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week on April 23 after striking out seven with only five hits allowed in seven shutout innings during the series opener at No. 23 Tulane on April 20. At 6-6, Brown was the tallest member of the 2007 Cougar team and ranked as the tallest player since reliever Bryan Moore measured in at 6-8 for the 1999 team.
