    DURHAM, N.C. -- After a banner freshman season with Houston Baseball, 2013 C-USA Freshman of the Year and Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Justin Montemayor was recently tabbed by Baseball America as the No. 3 Top Prospect hailing from the Hamptons Collegiate Summer League, announced Thursday afternoon.

    Montemayor joined 259 other top baseball prospects around the nation on Baseball America's prestigious list after a strong summer outing with the Sag Harbor Whalers out of the Hamptons Collegiate Summer League.


    The Austin, Texas native helped his team to the postseason and was named an All-Star after hitting .302 in 31 games and 126 at-bats. He added 10 runs, 38 hits, five doubles, 12 RBI and three stolen bases to his statistical makeup.

    Baseball America ranked who they considered to be the Top Prospects out of the top 22 collegiate summer leagues across the nation. Montemayor was one of just 10 selected out of the Hamptons Collegiate Summer League.

    For his work on the field, he was tabbed the No. 3 prospect and top infielder out of this respective league.

    Wrapped up arguably one of the best freshman campaigns in Houston Baseball history...Was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American at first base to cap off an award-winning season...Named C-USA Freshman of the Year - just the second all-time in program history...Started and played all 58 games for the Cougars at first base...Led Houston in average (.329), hits (73), runs scored (42), homeruns (3) and slugged .432 to accompany his 10 doubles and three triples...Fielding a strong first base for a .988 percentage...Broke Houston freshman all-time records in chances (575) and putouts (536)...Ranked first in C-USA in chances, putouts, fourth in runs scored, fifth in hits and average and 10th in total bases...Hit .337 in C-USA play with 29 hits and 10 RBI...Led Houston with 22 multi-hit games and finished third on team with eight multi-RBI games...Ended 2013 on an active 15-game on-base reaching streak...Hit a homerun in his first ever collegiate at-bat in Houston's season opener vs. Northeastern (Feb. 15)...Tallied a season-high four hits, twice, in win over New Orleans (March 15) and in a 4-for-4 effort with two RBI in C-USA Championship win over East Carolina (May 23)...Drove in three on two hits, including a homerun at Marshall (April 7)...Had two hits in a win over No. 30 Texas A&M at the College Classic (March 1), three knocks in win over Baylor (March 16)...Had a span of seven two-hit games in 10 contests from April 26 to May 11...Maintained a .300 or better average from March 1 to end of season
