HOUSTON - With the fall season in full gear, the University of Houston baseball team will hold its final scrimmage of the season on Saturday. The Cougars will face San Jacinto College in a scrimmage slated to begin at noon.

Prior to the scrimmage, Houston will hold batting practice beginning at 10 a.m.

Last weekend, UH played an extended scrimmage against Alvin Community College at Cougar Field. There, head coach Rayner Noble got a chance to see his pitching staff in action and overall he was pleased with what he saw out of his squad.

"The pitchers really competed well," Noble said. "We made some errors out in the field but we are playing guys in multiple positions and trying to settle on who is going to be where. Overall, it was a good day."

Saturday's scrimmage will be the final one of the fall season and is open to the public.

UH will continue its weekday practices, which are set to begin at 2:30 p.m. and are closed to the public, while weekend practices are open to all fans.

The fall practice schedule will culminate on Nov. 8 when the 2008 Cougar Baseball team receives their 2008 Conference USA Championship rings and will be honored at the Houston football game against Tulane.

The Cougars open the 2009 season on Feb. 20-22 when they host Kansas State in a weekend, non-conference series at Cougar Field. The series begins at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, continues at 4 p.m. on Feb. 21 and will wrap up at noon on Feb. 22.
