Pitchers Highlight Game 1 of Red-White World Series

HOUSTON -- Houston Baseball pitchers put on a show Thursday evening in Game 1 of its annual Red-White World Series at Schroeder Park as the hurlers held each other scoreless, ending in a 0-0 tie following the scheduled 6-inning contest.

Winner take all Game 2 will be played at 6:30 p.m. Friday.


WHITE TEAM NOTES
Pitching Breakdown
Trey Cumbie | 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K
Brayson Hurdsman | 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
D'Mond LaFond | 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

White was highlited by the work of starting pitcher and 2017 First Team All-American and American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year Trey Cumbie. The southpaw tossed 4.0 shutout innings, surrendering just two hits and one walk, while fanning seven -- including striking out the side in the fourth.

Sophomore Brayson Hurdsman relieved Cumbie in the fifth and fanned a pair without allowing a hit. Freshman D'Mond LaFond tossed the sixth and managed to work around a bases-loaded jam and keep the game scoreless.

Offensive Notes
Nick Slaughter | 1-for-3, 2B
Grayson Padgett | 1-for-3, 2B

White was held to two hits, doubles by both sophomore Nick Slaughter and junior Grayson Padgett.

Fred Villarreal | 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
Kyle Ott | 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Red was highlighted by the work of sophomore starter Fred Villarreal. The righty allowed just one hit and one walk, while holding White scoreless through 4.0 innings with two strikeouts.

Senior Kyle Ott, a graduate transfer from Baylor, tossed the final 2.0 frames, surrendering one hit with two strikeouts.

Offensive Notes
Josh Elvir | 1-for-2, 2B
Drew Minter | 1-for-2, 1B

Red was also held to two hits with junior Josh Elvir leading the way with a double and freshman Drew Minter with a single.


ON DECK
Game 2 will be played Friday at 6:30 p.m. Friday's game will be a winner take all, 9-inning game. There will be no Game 3.
The annual event is free and open to the public. Fans are encouraged to come out and get a sneak peek of your 2018 Cougars, highlighted by 16 newcomers.

Game 3 will be played regardless of the outcome of Games 1 and 2 and all three games are slated for 6-inning contests.


SEASON TICKET RENEWAL INFORMATION
At this time, only 2017 baseball season ticket members will have the opportunity to reserve a seat for 2018, as renewals are available by CLICKING HERE. Fans wishing to become a season ticket member will have the opportunity to purchase in early 2018.

Season tickets for 29 regular-season home games at Schroeder Park are available for $200 for the reserved chairback seating on the lower level of the concourse of the stadium.

For the fourth straight year, the additional "Reserved 2" seating option for the 2018 season is available as fans can purchase an assigned seat in sections 200, 201 and 202 for $150.

General admission seating will run in sections 203-209 and are available for $100 for the entire season.

All 2017 season ticket members should have received an email regarding the renewal process for 2018.

$200 - Reserved 1 (Sections: 100 Level)
$150 -- Reserved 2 (Sections: 200, 201, 202)
$100 -- General Admission (Sections: 203-209)
*GA season tickets will include (1) one ticket per game

$160 -- UH Faculty/Staff Reserved 1
$120 -- UH Faculty/Staff Reserved 2

RENEWAL DEADLINE: December 11, 2017 at 5 pm
If you wish to renew season tickets for the 2018 season, all renewals must be in the system by 5 p.m. CT on December 11, 2017 to guarantee your selected seat.
