Houston Defeated By Texas Tech, 62-48

LUBBOCK, Texas - Despite Louis Truscott's sixth double-double performance, Houston suffered a 62-48 loss at Texas Tech on Wednesday.

Kasib Powell scored 21 points, and the 25th-ranked Red Raiders held Houston to 28 percent shooting.

Truscott was the only Cougar to score in double figures as he ended the game with 16 points and 14 rebounds. never trailed against Houston (2-7), which made only 17 of 61 field-goal attempts.

Texas Tech led by as many as 28 points early in the second half. But Houston went on a 18-4 run that whittled Tech's lead to 12 with less than two minutes remaining.

Tech coach Bob Knight stopped the comeback attempt by putting three starters back on the floor.

Pawel Storozynski scored 14 points for Tech, and Andre Emmett had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Tech led 35-16 at halftime.

Truscott had all six of Houston's points in the first half until 13 minutes into the game, when Bryan Shelton sank a 3-pointer. Houston didn't break into double figures until there were four minutes left in the half.

Five minutes into the second half, the Cougars had twice as many turnovers as baskets. They finished with 22 turnovers.

It was the second lowest point total Tech has allowed this season and its lowest point total. Tech beat Nicholls State 107-35 in early December, establishing a new school record for largest margin of victory.

Houston will return home to play host to Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, January 4. The game will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. on Guy V. Lewis Court in Hofheinz Pavilion.
