Cougars Win Third Road Game of the Season with a 75-62 victory at Centenary

Shreveport, La. - Oliver Lafayette scored 21 points, while Brian Latham and Ramon Dyer added 15 points each to lead the University of Houston men's basketball team to a 75-62 victory at Centenary College.

The Cougars led 7-5 with 18:37 when Latham came off the bench to score seven points during a 44 second span to give the Cougars a 14-5 lead. Then, he hit Lafayette for two straight three-point field goals from the left baseline to help Houston open up a 20-10 lead and take control of the game for good.

Houston never led by less than eight points the rest of the way and went into the halftime locker room leading, 44-33.

The Cougars extended their lead to 19 points with 7:29 left to play when Chris Lawson hit Dyer for a slam-dunk off a fast break. Houston led by 21 points when Lamar Roberson scored on a lay-up off a steal.

UH finished the game with 18 steals and scored 36 points off of Centenary's 25 turnovers.

Dyer led Houston with a season-high of eight rebounds and recorded three steals. Latham handed out seven assists and finished with three steals, while Lafayette led the Cougars with five steals.

The victory improves Houston's record to 8-3 this season, and the Cougars improved their record to in road games to 3-2, marking the first time since 1996-97 that the Cougars have won three non-conference road games in a season.

Houston returns home to play host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, January 7 at 7:00 p.m. in Hofheinz Pavilion.
