    Recap |  Final Stats

    HEAD COACH James Dickey
    On the game

"They kicked our tails. They really played well. Early on, we were so tentative and non-aggressive. Both teams got off to a slow start offensively in the first four minutes of the game."

On what led to the Memphis runs
"They had a little bit of a rhythm, and we didn't. We finally had it going just a little bit. We cut it to 18 in the first half, then we brought it to 11. We brought it to eight in the second half, and then they put the accelerator down, and we did not respond at all. I'm embarrassed and so disappointed that our guys did not compete better."

    On disappointment
"To play like that at home is so disappointing. I told our guys that we have such a storied program they should feel very badly. I don't want to take anything away from Memphis. They played really well, but they got comfortable, and we didn't offer much resistance."

On how they can bounce back
"There is still a lot of basketball to be played. We have to regroup. In the last three games in the second half, we have not been very good at all with rebounding. We have to get better offensively. We have work to do before we go to Dallas on Tuesday night."

    On ball handling
"We're not playing with very much confidence offensively. We're not moving. We're just not sharp. This is the worst we've been beat (in his UH career). I don't think we had an assist in the second half. You have to move yourself and move the ball."

    On second-half performance
"The second half has been a problem in the last three games. We were outrebounded at UTEP, UCF and tonight. I don't want to take anything away from any of the teams we've played, but a lot of our turnovers are because we're forcing them. We're making poor decisions."

    On responding to Memphis' defense
"Their defense was good, but we were not as patient as we needed to be. A team like that that is talented and one of the big parts of their game is transition. You have to put them on defense. You have to make them guard."

    On what needs to improve
"We have to shoot the ball better. You have to put the ball in the hole. We went into league play shooting the ball pretty good. I understand the defense gets better, but we're shooting the ball so poorly.."
    SOPHOMORE FORWARD Alandise Harris
    On the game

"We didn't play hard. We didn't compete."

On Memphis getting their hands on the ball a lot
"We weren't running our plays smoothly."

    On Memphis
"They're the same team from last year."

    FRESHMAN FORWARD TaShawn Thomas
    On the game

"They came ready to play, and we didn't. We had little spurts, but when adversity hit, we just sat down."

    On getting open shots
"It was very hard. In Conference USA there are a lot of good defenses, so it's going to be hard getting any kind of shot. Memphis is one of the best teams in our conference, so getting shots off them is even harder."

    On being blocked
"I should have gone with another move."

    On what went wrong
"We didn't execute on offense at all. We didn't set good screens or communicate. Some people thought we were running one play, and then we would run another. The whole team wasn't on the same page."
