HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - University of Houston junior guard Corey Davis Jr. posted 18 points with six rebounds and four assists, but it would not be enough as the Cougars dropped an 80-70 decision to No. 8 Cincinnati inside BB&T Arena on Wednesday evening.
Davis connected on 6-of-12 shots from the field, including 5-of-7 from the free throw line, and made at least one 3-pointer in his 17th straight game.
The Cougars (16-5, 6-4 American) built a double-digit lead early in the game and built as much as an 18-point advantage after Davis drained a 3-pointer with 7:24 remaining in the first half.
However, the Bearcats - who won their 38th straight home game - closed out the opening period on a 17-3 run to move to within 40-37 at halftime.
The two teams went back and forth in the second half, and the Cougars grabbed a 56-54 advantage on another 3-pointer from Davis with 10:36 left in the game.
Unfortunately, Cincinnati used a 20-5 run over the next seven minutes to build a lead it would never relinquish.
Senior forward Devin Davis posted 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and added a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Armoni Brooks totaled 12 points, thanks to four 3-pointers, while freshman forward Fabian White Jr. added 10 points.
