HOUSTON (AP) - Joby Thomas scored 26 points, including 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, as Charlotte beat Houston 83-68 on Saturday night.

Charlotte (14-6, 8-1 Conference USA) struggled from the field in the first half, but still led 33-26 at halftime. The 49ers would go on to shoot 58 percent in the second half, pulling away for the win.

Houston (11-10, 4-4) outscored Charlotte 38-16 in the paint but was hurt by 17 turnovers - the 49ers scored 21 points off of them.

Charlotte also got 14 points from Curtis Nash, 13 from Cam Stephens and 10 from Kevin Johnson.

Houston was led by George Williams' 23 points and 12 rebounds. Dominic Smith and Kevin Gaines each added 13 points and four assists.
