TEAM NOTES

• Shooting 56.1 percent from the field, the Cougars recorded a season high... It topped the previous season best of 53.6 percent (30-of-56) set against Presbyterian during the consolation game of the Durham Regional of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer (Nov. 11, 2008).

• Wednesday's field goal percentage of 56.1 percent (32-of-57) was the Cougars' best performance since hitting 56.9 percent (33-of-58) at Conference USA rival UAB on Feb. 20, 2008.

• With 97 points, the Cougars recorded their highest total in the series against UCF... It topped the previous high of 84 points in an 84-81 win on Feb. 2, 2008).

• With a 28-point win, the Cougars enjoyed their biggest victory in the all-time series against UCF... It topped their 19-point win (71-52) during the Conference USA Championship (March 9, 2006).

• With Wednesday's win, the Cougars improved to 6-2 (.750) all-time against UCF and won their third straight game against the Knights... In addition, the Cougars improved to 3-1 (.750) against UCF in Orlando.

• Wednesday's game was the 345th time that the Cougars competed on television... The Cougars improved to 192-153 (.557) all-time when appearing on television.

• This marked the fourth consecutive year that the Cougars played UCF in basketball... The series has been played at least once every year since the 2005-06 season.

• The Cougars return to action at 8 p.m., Saturday, when they meet Conference USA- and crosstown rival Rice in Hofheinz Pavilion... That game will be part of a doubleheader with the UH women's basketball team, which plays host to Rice at 5 p.m., Saturday.


INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• With his second straight 30-point game, junior guard Aubrey Coleman became only the 10th player in school history to accomplish that feat... He joined Greg Anderson, Otis Birdsong, Don Boldebuck, Lyle Harger, Elvin Hayes, Sam Mack, Robert McKiver, Ollie Taylor and Rob Williams. (Otis Birdsong was the last Cougar to record three straight 30-point games [36, vs. TCU, 2/26/77; 30, vs. Texas A&M, 3/3/77; 38, vs. Texas Tech, 3/4/77]... Birdsong joins Elvin Hayes as the only players in school history to score at least 30 points in three consecutive games.

 

 

• With 30 points, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his second straight 30-point game (35, at No. 18/19 Memphis, Jan. 31, 2009)... He became the first player since Sam Mack during the 1991-92 season to record back-to-back 30-point games.

• With his second 30-point game of the 2008-09 season, junior guard Aubrey Coleman became only the 20th player in school history to record multiple 30-point games in one season.

• With 30 points, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his second straight 30-point game... He became the 30th player in UH history to record multiple 30-point games during his career.

• With his second 30-point game this season, junior guard Aubrey Coleman joined teammate Kelvin Lewis in recording multiple 30-point games in 2008-09.

• With 30 points and 10 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his seventh double-double of the season and his career.

• With seven double-doubles, junior guard Aubrey Coleman moved into a tie for the team lead with senior center Marcus Cousin.

• With 11 free throws, junior guard Aubrey Coleman tied his career high... He equaled his total at No. 18/19 Memphis (Jan. 31, 2009) and against Western Kentucky (Nov. 15, 2008).

• Sophomore guard Zamal Nixon started his second straight game, a first during his career.


HEAD COACH Tom Penders NOTES
• With Wednesday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 621-417 (.598) during his career... Penders also improved to 94-56 (.627) during his UH tenure.

• With Wednesday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 6-3 (.667) against UCF during his career (6-2 at UH; 0-1 at Fordham)... Penders also improved to 3-1 (.750) against UCF in Florida during his career.

• With Wednesday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 43-26 (.623) in Conference USA games during his career... Penders also improved to 263-158 (.625) in all conference games during his career.
