TEAM NOTES

• Saturday's attendance of 5,533 was a season high... It topped the previous high of 3,917 set against Conference USA-rival UTEP on Jan. 28.

• With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 54-14 (.794) all-time against Rice and won their fifth straight game against the Owls... In addition, the Cougars improved to 28-5 (.848) against Rice at Hofheinz Pavilion.

• Saturday's game marked the 13th consecutive year and the 37th in the last 38 seasons that the Cougars played Rice in basketball... The series has been played at least once every year since the 1997-98 season.

• The Cougars return to action at 7 p.m., Wednesday, when they meet Conference USA-rival SMU in Moody Coliseum in Dallas.


INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• With 27 points and 12 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his team-leading eighth double-double of the season and his career.

• With eight double-doubles, junior guard Aubrey Coleman broke out of a tie for the team lead with senior center Marcus Cousin.

• With 11 free throws, junior guard Aubrey Coleman tied his career high... He equaled his total at Conference USA-rival UCF (2/4/09), at No. 18/19 Memphis (Jan. 31, 2009) and against Western Kentucky (Nov. 15, 2008).

• With three blocked shots, junior forward Qa'rraan Calhoun tied his career high... He equaled his total set against Alcorn State (11/18/08).

• With nine points and 10 rebounds, senior center Marcus Cousin fell just one point shy of his eighth double-double this season... It was the fourth time this season Cousin fell one point or one rebound shy of a double-double... The Baltimore native finished with double-digit points and nine rebounds in three games.

• Sophomore guard Zamal Nixon started his third straight game, a first during his career.


HEAD COACH Tom Penders NOTES
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 622-417 (.599) during his career... Penders also improved to 95-56 (.629) during his UH tenure.

• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 21-7 (.750) against Rice during his career (6-3 at UH; 15-4 at Texas)... Penders also improved to 4-0 against Rice in Hofheinz Pavilion during his UH career and is 10-2 (.833) against Rice in all home games during his career.

• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 44-26 (.629) in Conference USA games during his career... Penders also improved to 264-158 (.626) in all conference games during his career.
