TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Troy Holston Jr. scored 18 points to help lead South Florida to a 69-67 victory over Houston on Tuesday night.
With the game tied at 52 with 6:53 remaining, South Florida's Bo Zeigler had a three-point play to spark a 9-1 scoring stretch for the Bulls that pushed their lead to eight with 3:49 left.
Houston made one final charge, cutting its deficit to one on an L.J. Rose 3-pointer with eight seconds left. After a Corey Allen Jr. free throw pushed the lead to two, Wes VanBeck missed the potential game winning 3 as time expired.
Anthony Collins added 13 points with six assists for South Florida (8-19, 2-12 American Conference), which snapped an 11-game losing skid. The Bulls trailed by five at halftime, just the fifth time in 21 games they have comeback after trailing at the break.
Rose had a career-high 25 points for Houston (9-16, 1-12).
Following Tuesday's game, the Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion when they play host to defending American Athletic Conference champion Cincinnati at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, in a game presented by IBEW Local Union 716.
The first 3,000 fans at Saturday's game will receive a free Basketball magnet.
Saturday's game will be part of "H-Day" with fans having the opportunity to be named the Coogs' Most Dedicated Fan by attending home events for four sport programs throughout the day.
Saturday features five home events on the UH campus: Women's Basketball (2 p.m. - SMU), Softball (3 p.m. - New Mexico, 5:30 p.m. - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi), Baseball (6:30 p.m. - Alabama) and Men's Basketball (8:30 p.m. - Cincinnati), along with the 38th annual "H" Association BBQ (4-7 p.m.).
Houston fans can pick up their Dedicated Coog card at the Women's Basketball game at Hofheinz Pavilion and pick up their first of four hole-punches. Fans who enter the venue of each sporting event and show their Dedicated Coog card will receive a hole-punch from the Houston Athletics Marketing Department.
Fans who collect all four punches can turn in a completed card at Hofheinz Pavilion at the Men's Basketball game to receive a special edition Coogs' Most Dedicated Fan t-shirt and be entered into the Coogs' Most Dedicated Fan grand prize.
That grand prize consists of batting practice for two with Houston Baseball, throwing out the first pitch at the March 22 Houston Softball game vs. USF, a suite for 20 at the March 1 Houston Men's Basketball game vs. USF, a position as the honorary head coach for the March 2 Houston Women's Basketball game vs. Temple and two field passes for the Houston Football Spring Game on April 18.
Fans can hear Saturday's Men's Basketball game live on KPRC 950 AM with Matt Thomas calling the action and Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes providing analysis. The pregame show begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

To purchase tickets in person, fans can visit the Athletics Ticket Office located on the northeast corner of TDECU Stadium, just outside of Gate 1 off Cullen Boulevard. Parking is available in the TDECU Stadium parking garage with the first 30 minutes free of charge.
All UH main campus students are admitted FREE to regular-season Men's Basketball home games with a valid student ID.
Fans also have a choice of a pair of mini plans when choosing their ticket options. With the Conference Pack, fans can purchase tickets to each of the Cougars' nine American Athletic Conference home games inside Hofheinz Pavilion, starting at only $8 per game in the Reserved 3 section.
Fans can choose the 3-Point Pack and pick any three of the Cougars' 17 regular-season home games with prices starting as low as $9 per game in the Reserved 3 section.
Tickets for groups of 10 or more can be purchased for as low as $9 per ticket in Reserved 3 (Section 101-102, 115-116, 126-128) for 17 regular-season home games inside Hofheinz Pavilion. Groups of 10 or more can buy tickets for only $14 per ticket in the Reserved 2 (Sections 103-104, 109-111, 117-119 and 124-125), while Reserved 3 seats (Section 105-108, 120-123) are available at $19 per ticket.
The ticket cost per person falls even more for groups of 25 or more. Group administrators are encouraged to call or visit the Athletics Ticket Office soon to secure their seats.
