TEAM NOTES

• The Cougars used a 15-2 run during the last 5:22 of the game to earn Saturday's win... Junior guard Kelvin Lewis scored five points, senior Marcus Cousin and junior guard Aubrey Coleman each scored four and sophomore guard Zamal Nixon added two points during that run.

• Rice's Trey Stanton nailed a pair of free throws with 5:22 remaining to give the Owls a 49-41 advantage, tying for their largest lead of the game... Rice did not score again until an Aleks Perka dunk with 46 seconds left pulled the Owls to within 52-51.

• With Saturday's win, the Cougars snapped a six-game losing streak at Autry Court/Tudor Fieldhouse... It was the Cougars' first road win against Rice since a 76-74 win on Jan. 13, 1996... The Cougars enjoyed a 69-60 win against the Owls on Jan. 22, 2008, in a game hosted by Rice... However, that game was played at Reliant Stadium.

• With only seven turnovers, the Cougars tied their second lowest total this season... It equaled their giveaway total against North Texas (Nov. 29, 2008) and trailed only the five turnovers against Alcorn State (Nov. 18, 2008).

• With Saturday's win, the Cougars improved to 55-14 (.797) all-time against Rice... In addition, the Cougars improved to 22-10 (.688) against Rice at Autry Court/Tudor Fieldhouse.

• With Saturday's win, the Cougars won their sixth straight game against Rice... UH has not lost to the Owls since a 76-71 setback on Jan. 17, 2007, at Rice.

• With Saturday's win, the Cougars swept the regular-season series against Rice... UH defeated Rice 72-65 on Feb. 7 inside Hofheinz Pavilion.

• This is the 14th fourth consecutive year and the 36th in the last 38 years that the Cougars played Rice in basketball... The series has been played at least once every year since the 1998-99 season... The series also has been played at least once every year since 1971-72 with the exception of the 1996-97 and 1997-98 seasons.

• The Cougars wrap up the regular season at 7 p.m., Saturday, when they play host to Conference USA-rival SMU inside Hofheinz Pavilion ... The Cougars enjoyed a 69-56 win on Feb. 11, in Dallas... Center Marcus Cousin and guard DaShaun Williams will be honored in pregame ceremonies prior to that game as part of Senior Night.


INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• With 12 points and 12 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his team-leading 10th double-double of the season and of his career.

• With 11 points, junior center Nick Mosley recorded a career high... His total topped his previous best of 10 points against Memphis (Jan. 11, 2007).

• With 11 points and nine rebounds, junior center Nick Mosley fell only one rebound shy of a double-double... Mosley has not recorded a double-double during his career.

• With three blocked shots, junior forward Qa'rraan Calhoun tied his career high... It equaled his total set against Rice (Feb. 7, 2009) and against Alcorn State (Nov. 18, 2008.

• Junior guard Kelvin Lewis failed to record a 3-pointer for only the second time this season... The Fort Worth native went 0-for-7 behind the arc at Mississippi State (Jan. 3, 2009).


HEAD COACH Tom Penders NOTES
• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 626-419 (.599) during his career... Penders also improved to 99-58 (.631) during his UH tenure.

• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 22-7 (.758) against Rice during his career... He improved to 7-3 (.700) against Rice during his UH tenure and was 15-4 (.789) against Rice during his stint at Texas.

• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 7-5 (.583) all-time against Rice at Autry Court/Tudor Fieldhouse during his career... That includes a 2-3 (.400) road record at UH and a 5-2 road record at Texas.

• With Saturday's win, head coach Tom Penders improved to 48-28 (.632) in Conference USA games during his career... Penders also improved to 268-160 (.626) in all conference games during his career.
