    HOUSTON HEAD COACH James Dickey
    Opening Statement
"Let me congratulate Coach Todd Buchanan, his staff and the ladies for running the table. That's an impressive accomplishment and extremely hard to do. It was great job by him and the program."

"The good thing is we can turn it over to our third season now - we talked earlier about how there was non-conference part of the schedule, the conference slate and then the conference tournament. We're going to have to gain our defensive awareness."

"We had chances to get back into the game when we were down by seven points. We didn't execute offensively, and then they just started driving on us. It wasn't anything complicated that they did; we didn't do a good job containing them."

"We know we are going to be the No. 11 seed, but we don't know who we'll be playing yet. It probably doesn't make a difference at this point. We need to get ready to play, and we won't look past our first game."

"It's certainly disappointing how many conference games we lost, especially at home. Now we have a chance in the postseason tournament to see if we can go back and play at a level we were earlier this year."

"We had 14 turnovers and 11 of those came from our post players. Rice did a nice job double-teaming us. We expected it and worked on it, but we didn't use good judgment passing the ball. You have to give Rice credit for what they did, but we weren't fundamentally sound in passing the ball. Rice also had 13 offensive rebounds. You can't help teams like we did tonight. We have enough trouble ourselves without helping the other team."

"We just need to go back to practice, get ready and travel to El Paso and play as hard as we can."

    On the turnovers
"We worked on operating out of the double-team and watched what Rice did to us the last time we played. We're not a dominant inside team, and we like to play inside-out, but when they double-team the post player, you have to be able to find the open man. We worked on it in practice, but it certainly didn't look like it tonight. We just made several ill-advised passes."

On the experience from the team last year heading into the tournament
"Hopefully we can draw from all of the guys last year with that great feeling (of winning the 2010 tournament). It'll be important for all of those guys to impart to everyone on what it takes to win like they did last year."

    SENIOR GUARD Zamal Nixon
    On defensive struggles
"There were a lot of things we didn't do defensively like not paying attention to assignments. They came out and got hot early. We knew they were good shooters, and we knew we had to get closer to them, but it was just a lack of execution."

    On what caused those struggles
"The struggles come from a lack of execution. We prepared well and had good practices. Our coaches do a great job of preparing us, but we haven't been doing a great job of carrying that over into the games."

On how to turn things around
"The beauty of it is now it's the conference tournament and everybody is 0-0. It's a chance for us to have a fresh start, right our wrongs and show what we can do and how good we can be. We really feel like we're good and can play with the best teams in the conference, and now we'll have a chance to show that when the tournament comes."

    On his time at Houston
"It has definitely been great. There have been a lot of good moments. I can't believe that I came here as an 18 year-old straight out of high school, and this is the place where I grew into a man."

    JUNIOR GUARD Darian Thibodeaux
    On Rice's outside shooting
"They have a lot of great shooters. Connor Frizzelle really hurt us shooting the ball. They especially put a lot of pressure on our big men because they were all hitting shots early."
