    TEAM NOTES

    • With Wednesday's win, the Cougars will face No. 4 seed UTEP at 8:30 p.m., Thursday in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals.

    • The Cougars will face No. 4 seed UTEP for the third time in 2008-09... The Cougars enjoyed a 94-86 win in El Paso on Jan. 14 before the Miners claimed a 62-55 win in Houston on Jan. 28... It was the first time that each team won on the other's home court.

    • With Wednesday's win, the Cougars recorded their 20th win of 2008-09... It marked the 20th time in school history that the Cougars won at least 20 games in a single season.

    • With Wednesday's win, the Cougars reached 20 wins for the third time in the last four seasons, all under head coach Tom Penders.

    • All five Cougar starters scored at least 14 points in Wednesday's win... It marked the third time this season that five players scored in double digits.

    • The Cougars held a 25-13 rebounding advantage at halftime and had more offensive rebounds (15) than SMU's first-half total.

    • Wednesday's game against No. 12 seed SMU marked the second straight season that the Cougars faced an opponent in the regular-season finale and in their first game at the Conference USA Championship... In 2008, the Cougars lost at UTEP 87-81 on March 8, 2008, and then lost to the Miners 80-77 in the C-USA Championship quarterfinals on March 13, 2008.

    • With Wednesday's win, the Cougars improved to 7-11 (.389) all-time at the Conference USA Championship.

    • With Wednesday's win, the Cougars improved to 35-27 (.656) all-time in all conference postseason tournaments.

    • With Wednesday's win, the Cougars snapped a two-game losing streak at the Conference USA Championship... It was the Cougars' first victory at the league's annual postseason event since a 77-62 win against Rice on March 9, 2007.

    • With 20 points and 14 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his team-leading 13th double-double this season and of his career.
