TEAM NOTES

• The Cougars will face No. 1 seed No. 4/3 Memphis at 3 p.m., Friday in the Conference USA Tournament semifinals.

• The Cougars advanced to the C-USA Tournament semifinals for the third time during the last four seasons and the fourth time overall... It also was the 17th time in school history that the Cougars advanced to the semifinals of any conference postseason tournament.

• The Cougars recorded their 21st win of 2008-09... It marked the 19th time in school history that the Cougars won at least 19 games in a single season.

• The Cougars reached 21 wins for the third time in the last four seasons, all under head coach Tom Penders.

• The Cougars improved to 8-11 (.421) all-time at the Conference USA Tournament.

• The Cougars improved to 36-27 (.571) all-time in all conference postseason tournaments.

• The Cougars played in their second overtime game in 2008-09, evening their record in those games at 1-1... UH dropped a 96-90 decision at Arizona on Jan 24, 2009.

• The Cougars improved to 38-30 (.559) all-time in overtime games and snapped a two-game losing streak in those games.

• The Cougars improved to 1-1 all-time against UTEP at the Conference USA Tournament.

• The Cougars improved to 6-9 (.500) all-time against UTEP... In addition, the Cougars improved to 1-1 all-time against UTEP at neutral sites.

• The Cougars won the season series against UTEP... The Cougars claimed a 94-86 win on Jan. 14 in El Paso before the Miners grabbed a 62-55 win on Jan. 28 in Houston.

• This was the fourth consecutive year that the Cougars played UTEP in basketball... The series has been played at least once every year since the 2005-06 season.

• With 24 points and 12 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his team-leading 14th double-double this season and of his career.

• With 24 points and 12 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his fifth straight double-double.

• With 24 points, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his 16th 20-point game this season and of his career... It also was his third straight game with at least 20 points.

• With 12 rebounds, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded his 13th game of the season and his career with at least 10 rebounds.

• With seven assists, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded a career high... His total topped his previous best of six assists at Conference USA-rival UTEP (Jan. 14, 2009).

• Playing 44 minutes, junior guard Aubrey Coleman recorded a career high... His total topped his previous best of 40 minutes, done five times and most recently against Conference USA-rival UCF (Feb. 21, 2009).

• With 16 points and 12 rebounds, senior center Marcus Cousin recorded his ninth double-double of the season and his career.

• With 12 rebounds, senior center Marcus Cousin recorded his 10th game of the 2008-09 season and the 12th game of his career with double-digit boards.

• With 22 points, junior guard Kelvin Lewis recorded his 12th game of the 2008-09 season and the 15th game of his career with at least 20 points in a game.


OPPONENTS' NOTES
• With 38 points, UTEP guard Stefon Jackson tied a season high by a Cougar opponent... His total equaled the mark by Iowa State's Craig Brackins (Dec. 28, 2008).


HEAD COACH Tom Penders NOTES
• Head coach Tom Penders reached at least 21 wins at Houston for the third time in the last four seasons.

• Head coach Tom Penders recorded the 12th 21-win season of his career.

• Head coach Tom Penders improved to 629-420 (.600) during his career... Penders also improved to 102-59 (.634) during his UH tenure.
