2008-09 Houston Cougars Men's Basketball Postgame Notes
** Saturday's game against Western Kentucky was the first meeting between the schools in nearly 40 years... It was also the first meeting on one of the participating teams' home courts. ** The Cougars return to action at 7 p.m., Tuesday, when they play host to Alcorn State in Hofheinz Pavilion... That game will end the Cougars' season-long three-game homestand. ** Former players, coaches and support staff members of the 1967-68 men's basketball team were recognized at halftime... That team was enshrined in the UH Athletics Hall of Honor on Friday night, the first time an entire team was inducted into the Hall.
** With eight assists, freshman point guard Desmond Wade dished out a game- and career-high eight assists... His total topped his previous best of set against Presbyterian on Nov. 11, 2008 during the consolation game of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer. ** Freshman point guard Desmond Wade played 39 minutes for the second straight game... His total tied his career high. ** Sophomore forward Horace McGloster and sophomore guard Brockeith Pane made their season debut with the Cougars.
** With Saturday's win, Penders improved to 2-0 all-time against Western Kentucky during his career... His Texas team claimed a 91-77 win over the Hiltoppers on March 17, 1994, during the first round of the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional. ** According to the best records, Penders improved to 28-4 all-time during home openers... He also extended his winning streak in home openers to 11 straight games... His teams have not lost a home opener since his Texas team fell 76-68 to Florida on Dec. 4, 1993... ** With Saturday's win, Penders improved to 5-0 during home openers at UH.
