    HOUSTON HEAD COACH James Dickey
    On the game

"They just took us out behind the wood shed and gave us a good whipping in the first half. You can't give up that many points. We really struggled on the defensive end and we talked about this. You have to be ready to play from the get-go. I thought Tech had great enthusiasm, I thought they played hard, they executed, rebounded and we didn't do well. In the second half I thought we did a much better job."

On cutting the Texas Tech lead to five points in the second half
"You always expend energy when you have dug yourself a hole when you're coming back up but I don't think that we had played hard enough to be tired. But you have to give them a lot of credit. They did a good job executing. Tubby's a great coach and he called a time out and they went back and really executed their offense and hit some big free throws."

On their overall performance during the two games
"We stepped up in the level of talent here in these two games. Stanford is a very good basketball team and Tubby has done a great job at Tech and we just have to play at a high level. There were times last night I thought we were really ready to play, but in the last minute and 42 seconds you can't allow a really good team to have an 8-0 run. You can't play poorly because a good team will take advantage of that. Tonight we played so poorly in the first half and I thought we played better in the second half. I thought we had guys do some good things. We settled for too many jump shots and we didn't shoot the ball well but you have to give credit to the defense."

On his team's experience playing at Barclays Center
"These guys have been terrific here. This is a great place to play. The people here have been wonderful and you hate to lose, but it wasn't because of the hospitality. The hospitality was great. It's just a wonderful place."

TEXAS TECH HEAD COACH TUBBY SMITH
    On the game

"I thought our guys did some good things. We dominated the boards and that is something we have been struggling with. I thought we were doing a good job of taking care of the ball in the first-half, and then in the second-half we started to cough it up a lot. You have to give credit to Houston because they are a pretty talented and athletic team. We are looking to build on tonight's game and I was glad to see our guys defensively step up. That was the key, holding them to .350 shooting. We really did some good things defensively and that is how we have to play."

    On holding onto the lead
"What happens with a lot of players is that they try and do too much. Jaye (Crockett) had a couple of turnovers and Jamal (Williams Jr.) had a turnover. They were taking it down the baseline and we tell them to keep it off the baseline. You also have a period of time when fatigue sets in and you have to fight through it. I think Jaye played the entire second-half and he has been playing great for us...I was proud of how our guys responded, didn't collapse and stayed positive."

On how these games will help Texas Tech prepare for BIG 12 play
"The BIG 12 is a long ways away. We have a lot of games between now and the BIG 12. There are some things that we learned and have to clean up. We need to execute the basic fundamentals. We were trying to do too much and we tried to simplify things for our players. We just gave them two or three offenses we needed to run and I thought we executed them pretty well...I think we need to tweak some of things we have in our arsenal and go from there. The BIG 12 is pretty good and we have a long way to go to compete with some of the upper echelon teams in the BIG 12."

    TEXAS TECH FORWARD JAYE CROCKETT
    On the win

"Coming from yesterday, we just wanted to come here and get a win. It was a horrible loss (last night) and we just wanted to put that behind us and come out and end on a positive note going back home. Everyone came out ready to play; shots were just falling tonight for us, and we did some good things both offensively and defensively."

On what the team can take from tonight
"It gives us confidence ending with a win like this. It was a good win and that was a good Houston team we played tonight. Knowing that we can beat a competitor like that gives us confidence going into the rest of the season.'
